Archery is not only fun, it’s also shown to unify mind and body, reduce stress, relieve anxiety and tension, elevate mood, burn calories, enhance focus and concentration and and promote positive social interaction.

Archery contests were extremely popular in medieval England. They were more than entertainment. They served as preparation for military campaigns, especially in France. By 1252, King Edward mandated that every child practice archery on feast day (Sundays) and every able-bodied man was required to have a bow. England’s famed longbow (war bow) archers helped win battles in France and elsewhere. A skilled archer could release as many as 12 arrows per minute with accuracy at 250 yards. The average war bow was in excess of 150# of draw weight, yielding enough force for the arrow to pierce armor or knock a knight off his horse.
